Course Description

This course explores the real-world implementation of artificial intelligence in professional services through an exclusive interview with Davin Gnanapragasam, Chief Technology Officer for Tax at KPMG Canada. One year after initial AI deployments, Davin shares candid insights about what's working, what's challenging, and what CPAs need to know about AI adoption. The course examines the evolution from executive buy-in to practitioner adoption, revealing how KPMG has moved from experimenting with thousands of use cases to focusing on high-value implementations that enhance rather than replace professional judgment.

Through practical examples and honest reflections, participants will discover how to overcome resistance to change, find their "first in" with AI tools, and understand why slower, incremental adoption often yields better results than trying to "boil the ocean." The course addresses the critical balance between leveraging AI for productivity gains while maintaining the human-centric relationships that define the accounting profession, providing actionable strategies for CPAs at firms of all sizes.

Learning Objectives

Upon completing the course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Analyze the cultural and organizational challenges of AI adoption in professional services by examining KPMG's journey from widespread experimentation to focused implementation
  2. Apply incremental AI adoption strategies by identifying low-stakes "first in" opportunities that build confidence and demonstrate value
  3. Evaluate the balance between AI productivity gains and maintaining human judgment in professional services to ensure client trust and value
